6 days and counting...
Well, we leave in 6 days - May 27th, Erika's birthday - and a week from now we'll be in Thailand! It's all kinda surreal right now. Like the trip is just an idea and not something that will actually be happening really soon.
We started thinking about taking a long trip together over a year ago. Erika realized that her graduate degree plan had an open summer. So I took this summer's classes early for my degree plan and that freed us both up. Then it was a case of where do we want to go. Central America was a front runner for a long time, but Erika's brother, Ricky, decided to spend another year teaching English in Korea. So it seemed too perfect for us to head his direction and spend the summer traveling with him. So here we are, 6 days from departure.
We have been getting ready pretty hard core the last couple of weeks. Getting shots, visas, arranging the housesitting for our manor while we are gone (lawn, bills, etc.), assembling the perfect packing scheme. We might post about that later in the week.
The most noticeable preparation has to be our hair though. Particularly mine. Erika cut off 3 inches for the trip and I cut off about a foot. It's pretty awesome. My showers now take less than five minutes (which means I just sleep longer) and I have no need for conditioner or a brush anymore. It did, however, reveal to me the extent of my gray. I've come to terms with it though.
