Nine Months

Better write about Owen at nine months before ten months gets here!  Nine months has brought on all kinds of mobility.  Owen started crawling in short, uncoordinated bursts just before nine months, and he has perfected the crawl throughout this month.  Now he is all over the house!  So I am having to be vigilant to shut the pantry door or Owen loves to go there and play with the full length spice rack on the door.  He also loves to play with the buttons on the DVD player (we have started blocking it off with a toy) and take all the foods out of Harper's play kitchen.

Owen is generally a happy little boy!  He gets upset if you take a toy away from him (understandable), or if you carry him into his room and turn on the sound machine, and he realizes nap time is imminent.  But those little protests usually don't last long. Something I love that he does now is crawl over to me and pull up to his knees on my legs, wanting me to pick him up.  He has also learned to give open-mouth kisses and make a "Mwa" sound when he does it.

The month of May brought on some crazy weather swings!  Unbelievably it was cold enough for Owen to wear a sweater, and then the next week, it was time for shorts.

When we went in for his nine month check up, our doctor said Owen had a double ear infection.  He had had a little cold the week before that had apparently turned into an infection.  Poor baby!  You gotta love it when you have no idea.  But when we went in for a followup visit,  it was all cleared up.  Hopefully now that we are in summer, he might not get a cold (or an ear infection) again for awhile. Owen's stats were:

weight - 25%
height - 60%
head - 75%

Will Harper be taller than her brother someday?  Perhaps.

Had to include a shot of sad Owen!  When he does cry, he goes all in.  No holding back.

But these are some things that make Owen very happy:

Jumping in the door jumper!  This is what Owen does when I get ready in the morning.

Eating!  Owen has developed into a great little eater, which I do not take for granted!  He is eating a large variety of foods, and will eat (so far) any kind of table foods I put on his tray (small pieces of cooked broccoli, carrots, peas, lentils, beans, chicken, beets, squash, banana, peaches, scrambled eggs, fish, etc.).  I hope this willingness to eat anything continues for awhile.
On a side note, we retried sweet potatoes after not eating them for 2 1/2 months, and he seems to have no problems with them now!  He has eaten them three times without throwing up, so I am grateful that he does not seem to have an intolerance for them after all.

The other day we were eating at a Mexican food restaurant, and while I was not looking, Owen managed to grab a large jalapeƱo slice that was accidentally on the table.  I looked over, and he had the thing in his mouth with just a piece hanging out, and his eyes were watering like mad!  He looked completely stunned!  He didn't cry because I think he was in shock.  So I took it out of his mouth and fed him more of the pureed peas he was eating, and soon he was fine.  Luckily that incident did not seem to have any lasting effects on his willingness to eat anything.

Owen also LOVES to swing...

...and take baths!  We have retired the baby bathtub, and Owen now sits up like a big boy in the regular bathtub with a bath mat.

Owen also loves to read books and turn the pages!  Being the second child, though, I think I read more books to Harper overall.  I was feeling guilty about this literary slight, so I started writing on my to-do list everyday to read to Owen.  That seemed to do the trick since I love to mark things off of my list everyday!  I am a to-do list dork.

I passed by Owen's shoes next to my shoes on the floor one day and was just struck by the sweetness of those little shoes.  One day I know they will be bigger than mine!

Park fun

Little munchkin waking up from his nap.  I know we need to lower his crib soon, but I will be sad to see the high crib days go away. Owen is taking a morning and an afternoon nap, and is going to bed sometime in the 7:00 hour, depending on when he woke up from his afternoon nap.  Owen is sleeping through the night pretty regularly, but on some nights, he wakes up one time.

Owen hasn't started pulling up to his feet yet, but he is on his knees all the time now.  It's so cute!

Owen in action!  He is wearing the Korean outfit my brother bought for Harper.

And here is a picture of Harper in the outfit at the same age for comparison.  They definitely share the same hair growth pattern (i.e., mohawk).

And finally here is a picture I took on my phone of Owen at the mall one day.  Smiling for Daddy...:)  Still only gums!
