Austin or Bust!
The Saturday before last, we embarked on an adventurous one-day road trip to Austin with the Goolsby family. Our agenda: participate in the family-friendly Save Texas Schools rally. With three kids between us and spouses and other family members in education, we felt it was important to take part. We loaded up Lisa's mom's Tahoe to the max at 6:30 a.m. and headed for the capital! We were all tired by the end of our 11 hour foray, but I'm so glad we did it.
Here you can see Lisa and I crammed in the back with little Norah between us. We didn't even try getting out for a bathroom break! Davis was avidly watching his Train Show DVD, while a less-interested Harper examined her kitchen spatula.

Lisa made t-shirts for the kids, and this was a much better way for them to get their message across. Fund Davis' future! :)

It was reported that there were about 11,000 people in attendance.

The march ended at the capitol building where everyone gathered for speakers and some random gospel singing.

Norah and Harper rolled around a bit on the blanket and talked about upcoming political strategy.
Harper and Davis ran around the grounds after our picnic and were thrilled to release some energy. Harper picked up sticks and came home with little twigs and leaves in her hair...a bath was definitely in order!
After running around, Harper relaxed on Daddy's back with her treasured blanket. There was a brief nap on the ride home, but for the most part, nap time was skipped this day. Harper and Davis got quite delirious on the drive home and there was a period when Harper giggled at anything Davis did.
