An Overview of Double Digits: 10 Months to 12 Months!

Well, as the title of this post suggests, I've gotten a little behind this summer on the blog front!  So I thought I would just put it all into one.  Owen is one year old now...yay!!!  He's a precious stinker, and he brings SUCH joy to our family. Here are some things about our little guy over the last few months...

Pretty proud to be in double digits!

A glimpse of Owen's preferred sleeping position.  I probably have a dozen pictures of Owen like this because it's just so darn sweet.  I can't get enough of it, but I will leave it at just one picture, as you get the idea. When I rock Owen, he gets in that same position except on my stomach and chest.  I love feeling his fuzzy head beneath my chin as we rock.

Owen is a big fan of books! He frequently busies himself amongst a big pile of books and looks so grown up flipping all the pages.

We went to Nashville to visit friends and family this summer (more on that later), and Owen got some reading time in with his Aunt Amy!

And T-Pa too!

Owen loves being tossed around, lifted in the air, flipped upside down...any high flying stunt will get a big smile or laugh.

Pure sweetness in the morning light

Future Wildcat...if Owen gets MANY scholarships :)

Owen on a play date with his friend Silas.  Couldn't be cuter!

Owen began pulling up to his feet at 10 months...here he is looking so proud!

And here is Owen standing at 12 months.  He stands and balances so confidently now.  He has even started letting go to stand on his own for a couple of seconds at a time.  It is so fun to watch little ones grow in their coordination, at whatever rate is right for them.  Owen just looks so big and almost "toddler" here to me.

Owen has a natural baby mohawk--here it is in full bath time effect.  Although I think first haircut is right around the corner, I am not quite ready yet.

11 months old!

We took a few little trips this summer and one was to New Braunfels.  On our way home, we stopped in Austin and took a dip in the chilly Barton Springs.

The highlight of the summer was having Ricky and his fiancĂ© Kim here for two months.  They got married in July (pictures on that soon to come).  Owen and Harper are crazy about their aunt and uncle!

We got this tunnel for Owen for his birthday (Craigslist-$6.00--what's up!).   Harper and Owen have found a surprising number of uses for it, including peek-a-boo, of course.

When Owen cries, he cries hard! Lately this also includes throwing his head back and arching his back. Oh dear, already??  We will have to gently work to channel all this passion. :)

He also knows what he wants and can't easily be distracted from it. The old "bait and switch" is not so effective anymore.  In fact, if you have taken something away that he wanted, and he is upset, he will toss away whatever you have tried to give him in its place.  The utter disdain with which he rejects the new item almost makes me smile sometimes, but I know I shouldn't.

Owen loves dogs!  At Nana's house, Owen enjoys watching Juneau through the screen door.  He says "dog" when he sees a dog or hears a dog barking.  It is one of the eight words Owen says (others are mama, dada, nana, ball, bye-bye, night-night, uh-oh).

Hanging out with his pals Ringo and Lucy.  We were house / dog sitting for Brian and Jenevieve for some of August.  Owen figured out all by himself how to undo the latches on the doggie crates and let the dogs out.  I was pretty impressed and Owen was pretty proud of himself!

Owen was a slow teether, but we finally got started!  He got his first tooth just before 11 months on the bottom.  Then they started coming pretty quickly and Owen has six now, two on bottom and four on top.  But for awhile he just had the one on top, making for such a funny, snaggle-tooth grin.

Just enjoying a refreshing dip!

Fun at Costco

12 Months!  I wanted to fix Owen's hair a little more, but we couldn't be bothered as we had exactly one second to snap a picture before that sticker was ripped off! :)

Like Father,  like Son :)  These shoes were one of the things I bought for Owen when I was pregnant with him.  Brent has worn Birkenstocks the entire time I've known him (15 years), so it just had to be.

Some more Owen Info...

Likes: Books, Dogs, Dancing, Wheels on the Bus (really all music), Getting down on his level and crawling at him, Almost all foods we have tried, Straining and reaching to touch everything in sight, Peek-a-Boo, Blowing kisses, Remote controls and keys, Swinging, Baths, Balloons, Diving in and out of the blowup swimming pool of balls, Mall playgrounds, throwing things (food included--we're working on this), and Clapping toys together

Dislikes: Watermelon, Blueberries, Raspberries (these foods are often thrown down), Being constrained, Diaper changes, Drop off at the church nursery (there are still tears at drop off, but Owen has been calming down once we leave and is getting through the whole service happily now--yippee!), When we stop swinging, Having something taken away from him that he wants

Words I would use to describe Owen: determined, intelligent, affectionate, verbal, curious, sweet, and perhaps a touch dramatic :)

We love you, Owen! I am so glad you are ours.
Many more posts to come in the next few weeks...Owen's first birthday, Harper turning four, Nashville trip and Ricky and Kim's wedding... :)  I'm about to be on a roll!  I also wanted to include a few video clips of Owen in the last month.  I love seeing his excitement and joy when he discovers something new.
