1 day and counting...
As is fitting before a big trip, Brent and I are up late doing last minute packing and running around the house trying to put things in order. Even though we've been preparing for this trip for weeks now, there is so much to do, and a lot of it can't be done until the last minute.
We did take time, however, to make a Bueno run and get a last taste of good 'ole Tex Mex. That will probably be my last bean burrito for awhile. I must say that I'm looking forward to Thai food, but I'm also a little scared of what we might be encountering as far as food goes over the next two months. We watched a Lonely Planet China video, and there were a lot of frogs, snakes and other moving things. True, rice and noodles aren't as interesting to film as a squirming eel, but it still made me nervous, so I did enjoy every bite of my meal tonight!
And now for our strategic packing. This is always a battle for Brent and me before any trip because I think, like probably a lot of girls, I want to pack options and have to fight the "over-pack." I really can't believe that four pairs of pants is enough for two months. Brent is bringing six shirts, and I'm bringing seven--not too bad, I think! And I'm not bringing a hair dryer or any other hair appliance--just going curly for two months, so I think I should get some points there too. Hopefully, we have thought of everything we'll need, and if not, we'll just buy it there. Below you'll find the contents of our bags. Brent's on the left with the black embroidered pillowcase for his dirties, and I'm on the right with the yellow one. (I knew that bizarre wedding gift would come in handy one day!)
Well, I guess we should go to bed. Our flight leaves tomorrow at 10:20 a.m. We have three legs of the journey--Vancouver, Hong Kong, and then Bangkok, arriving roughly 24 hours after the time we left. If we get there with both bags after all of those layovers, it will be a miracle! Brent has a well thought out "how-to-avoid-jet lag" plan, but it involves staying up for over a day, so I don't know if I'm in. Our next post will be from Thailand. We'll let you know how the jet lag plan went.
