Georgia Getaway

In February, Brent found some amazing flight prices, and we decided to jump on them and take a little couples getaway to Savannah, Georgia. We figured it could be a Valentine's / Baby Moon #2 / early 10 year anniversary trip all wrapped into one. Harper split her time between both sets of wonderful grandparents, and off we went for five days of fun and relaxation!

First we flew into Atlanta and spent one night there before driving to Savannah the next day. We did some shopping in a funky area known as Little Five Points. We also ate at my favorite restaurant of the trip, La Tavola Trattoria. If you ever find yourself in Atlanta, eat here! :)

The next morning we ate breakfast at The Flying Biscuit in Midtown. Another fantastic restaurant recommended to us by friends. Of course, being pregnant, I was loving all the good food! :)

On our four hour drive to Savannah, we saw lots of lovely pastoral scenery and barns.

Here is the outside of our bed and breakfast, The Green Palm Inn. I would also highly recommend this place! We had these mouth watering, draw-you-out-of-bed, home cooked breakfasts every morning. Not to mention savory hors d'oeuvres each afternoon and freshly baked cookies and other sweet treats anytime with all the wine you could drink (for Brent, of course). We were spoiled!

Our little room was perfect.

Savannah is one of the cutest towns I have ever visited. It is only 2.2 square miles, so it is completely walkable. At nearly every intersection is a square, 22 in all, filled with enormous old trees and featuring various monuments, fountains and statues.

Many of the trees are covered in this beautiful Spanish moss. Although we did not experience any ghostly encounters, the city is supposedly one of the most haunted in America. The presence of this moss definitely added to the city's mystique.

Our first full day started with a two hour walking tour of the city with "Savannah Dan" as our guide. It was a bit touristy but a great introduction to the history of this old city, which dates back to 1733.

We saw many lovely large homes...

...as well as charming, tiny homes. This one is around 500 square feet and was built in 1845.

Couldn't resist this on Valentine's weekend!

Savannah is home to SCAD (Savannah College of Arts and Design), so the city has a college crowd component. We saw a group of students making a Charlie Chaplain film in one of the squares.

The Lucas Theater...

...where we saw a philharmonic symphony performance one evening. We felt rather sophisticated among all the retirees. :)

We also walked around the quintessentialy Southern Gothic Bonaventure Cemetery, which is set on a river with moss covered trees. Brent took a zillion pictures of the haunting old statues situated throughout the cemetery.

I had been craving some fried chicken, and we couldn't leave Savannah without eating some authentic soul food at Sisters of the New South...it was go-ood.

Did I mention that we had scored some killer flight prices to make this trip a reality? Well, they did involve flying on Spirit Airlines. I have never sat in a seat so cramped, but overall, it wasn't too bad, and we would fly them again.

It was a wonderful, rejuvenating couples trip with Brent, and we would highly recommend Savannah if you are looking for a relaxing weekend in an idyllic setting.

And, of course, we couldn't go on a trip without Brent capturing it in a little video! :)
